
Two new operators appeared in Nice
In 2009, the city of pleasantly launched his city bike rentalbaptized Vélobleu : it had a fleet of 1,750 bicycles, about a third of which had electric assistance (e-Vélobleu). Vélobleu was offered in the municipalities of Nice, Caen-sur-Mer and Saint-Laurent-du-Var.
After 15 years, the civil service delegation entrusted to Transdev is coming to an end Metropolis Nice Cote d’Azur wanted to update its bike sharing service to make it more modern, practical and efficient for users. That’s how a a new solution for self-service bicyclesofficially opened on February 20, 2024.
From now on, two new operators are starting work, Lime and Ponywith a fleet of 2,000 self-service bicycleswidespread 12 municipalities Nice-Côte d’Azur metropolis: Nice, Cagnes-sur-Mer, Saint-Laurent-du-Var, Beaulieu-sur-Mer, Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, Drap, La Trinite, Saint-André-de-La Roche , Vance, Saint-Jean, Carros and La Gaude.
Self-service bikes driven by Lyme and Pony
Among these 2,000 shared bikes, 90% are electric bikes : they offer greater performance and comfort, increased strength, as well as better functionality, in particular autonomy of 100 km electrical assistance.
To rent a bike, users simply downloadmobile application from one of the two operators (Lime or Pony) and activate geolocation to find the nearest bike. The app will also let you unlock it by scanning a QR code. Thanks to this new system, you can now pick up or leave your bike in just one of the parking areas intended for this purpose: there are financial penalties for users who do not comply with this parking rule.
In practice it is 250 parking zones which have been planned in the 12 municipalities served, in particular reusing the seats designated for the previous Vélobleu service. This means an increase of more than 50% in the number of stations compared to the 160 stations that already exist.
With this new bike-sharing service operated by Lime and Pony, the Côte d’Azur capital of Nice aims to encourage the adoption of soft mobility in its territory.
