The 19-year-old American took an hour and 22 minutes to defeat the Australian, who is ranked No. 9 in the ATP rankings, 6-4, 6-1.

Michelsen (74 ATP) will battle another Australian for a place in the semi-finals after Jordan Thompson (40 ATP, 8th seed) edged out Emilio Nauvoo (146 ATP).

Oleksandr Zverev (1st favorite), Stefanos Tsitsipas (2nd, current champion) and Kasper Ruud (4th) defeated their opponents (6-0) in the round of 16 and advanced to the next round.
