Police in Iași have launched an investigation after footage emerged in public of a woman kicking a statue in the center of Iași. The woman is outraged that the work depicts snakes and claims it should be torn down, News.ro reports.
A work of art called “Hydra” was created by sculptor Costin Ionice and was also exhibited in Bucharest in 2012, symbolizing the lack of verticality and humanity of the Romanian political class.
Images appeared on the website wowiasi.ro showing a woman kicking a statue displayed in Iasi, outraged by the way it looks.
“Let’s come with somebody else and tear it down, cut it out. Snakes come out of this neck, these are not flowers at all,” says the woman.
Similarly, another woman crosses herself in front of the statue and says that she has come to see the creation with her own eyes.
“I couldn’t sleep last night after seeing it on the Internet, and I came here to see it for myself,” the girl said.
The police in Iași launched an investigation after photos showing one of the women kicking the statue.
“Following the images that appeared in the public space of a person kicking a statue in Voivozilor Park in the municipality of Iași, we make it clear that the police officers of the Iași Municipal Police have informed themselves on duty about this situation and will checks have been carried out to establish the entire actual situation,” Iasi district police representatives reported on Wednesday.
The work will be exhibited in the center of Yass for a month.
