Romania will replace South Africa at the Olympic Games in Paris

Romania’s national men’s polo team received some extraordinary news after finishing 10th at the World Championships in Doha.

The tricolors will go to the Paris Olympics after South Africa officially withdrew from the competition.

France, Hungary, Greece, Japan, United States, Spain, Australia, Serbia, Croatia, Montenegro, Italy and Romania are the teams that have qualified for the 2024 Olympic Games. Romania qualified for the Olympics due to the fact that the first 9 teams from the World Cup already qualified, and the tricolors took the place of South Africa, reports Fanatik.

“I am incredibly happy and want to congratulate the boys and the entire technical staff on an outstanding performance.” – said Alexandru Matei, president of the Romanian Polo Federation, reports sport.ro.

The polo tournament at the 2024 Olympics will be held from July 27 to August 11. We will have two groups of six teams, four of which will advance to the quarterfinals.

This will be the first participation of the Romanian polo team at the Olympic Games in 12 years. In 2012, the current president of the Federation, Alexandru Matei, played in London.
