The contract with the Turkish entrepreneur NUROL INSAAT VE TICARET AS was signed on Friday by CNAIR for approximately 2.46 billion lei (excluding VAT). The developer will have 30 months (6 months design, 24 months execution) to complete the work from the date of issuance of the commencement order.

Driveways and viaducts are planned to be built along the route of the highway section (24.4 km), including 36 bridges.

The contract is funded by the PNRR and should, in theory, be completed by 2026, the final year for this program. According to the terms of the contract, the chances of completing this highway under the PNRR program are minimal.

In parallel, for another segment of the Tirgu-Mureş-Iasi motorway, included in the PNRR, 30 km between Legin and Mocea, where the contract with UMB was signed at the end of September 2023, but funding was not included in the 2024 budget. .

A8 “Unirii” highway – connecting Moldova with Transylvania and a race against time for funding for the PNRR

The “Unirii” highway A8 runs almost 320 km from Tirgu Mures (intersection with A3) to Iasi and Ungheni, on the border with the Republic of Moldova.

The sections from Tirgu Mures to Merkur Nirajului (approx. 25 km) and from Legin to Tirgu Neamts and to Moca/DN2 (approx. 30 km) are financed by the PNRR, a short-term plan developed by the EU for post-pandemic restart. Mandatory condition: completion of projects by 2026 and conclusion of contracts by the end of 2023.

On the “mid-mountain” site, the finalization of the feasibility study began in 2019 and only last year was completed and the technical and economic indicators were established (in total, it will cost 6.4 billion euros), the tender for design and implementation is expected, possibly this year.

For the Moțca/DN2 – Iasi – Ungen section, field studies were only carried out in 2023 after the project was blocked for more than a year at the route selection stage.
