Electric Lancia Delta in 2028? Auto Plus news in your smartphone Auto Plus news in your inbox

Although the new Ypsilon has just been unveiled, we are already interested in future models from the Italian brand, including the future Lancia Delta. So it will really rise from the ashes, but, unfortunately, not immediately…

She will come back and be the real Delta »

The revival of the iconic Lancia model is no longer surprising. His return has actually already happened confirmed 3 years ago, none other than Luca Napolitano, the man who heads the Italian brand.Everyone wants Delta, and it can’t be missing from our plans. It will return, and it will be a real Delta: an exciting car, a symbol of progress and technology. And, obviously, it will be electric “, the Italian businessman clarified in the press even before the revival of Ypsilon. We already knew all this. But since then, the pieces have slowly started to come together and the puzzle is taking shape. But alas, we’ll still have to be patient to find out. And it’s taking a little longer than expected… The Lancia Delta was originally slated to return in 2026 after the Ypsilon facelift. But in the end, another project stood between the recently introduced city car and the upcoming compact car of the Italian brand. As a result, the release of Delta was delayed for two years and will finally be released in 2028 after the SUV whose name we already know: Aurelia. It also benefits from a 100% electric motor.

And, obviously, it will be electric »

So, no more 2-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that develops up to 215 hp. and 314 Nm of torque in the Integrale “Evoluzione 2” released in 1993. An engine that already at that time allowed the Italian to reach a top speed of 220 km/h. But above all, it allowed him to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.7 seconds in combination with permanent all-wheel drive! In fact, the compact car will become fully electric by 2028. It will most likely share its technical base with the upcoming Opel Astra, DS 4 and other electric Peugeot 308s, namely the STLA Medium platform from the Stellantis group. The architecture, which at that time should have entered its second generation and, therefore, will allow to reflect the autonomy of the recording. We will remind you that the first generation of such architecture is already on the Peugeot E-3008 SUV and allows the latter to travel up to 700 km on a single charge with a battery with a capacity of 98 kWh! 98 kWh is probably a bit much for a compact car, but the range of the French SUV is 525 km with a 73 kWh battery. On the other hand, it should easily fit into a compact device about 4.4 m long. And not content with patience, the future Delta must also be efficient. Because if Ypsilon wins from a Sports version of HPE with four-wheel drive and a power of 240 hp. we don’t see how Delta will do without a more radical option…

One thing’s for sure: we can’t wait to find out everything about the upcoming Lancia Delta: its power, range, and looks! Will it continue to be as straight as the Integrale? Unfortunately, we’ll probably have to wait until 2028 to find out…
