Swiss police have launched an investigation into “discrimination and incitement to hatred” after Pischa, a hotel-restaurant high in the ski resort of Davos, announced in writing (in Hebrew) on a sign that it refused to rent winter sports equipment – sledges. and snowshoes (shoes) – to Jewish tourists, AFP reports, citing News.ro.

The revelations were made public on Monday by the newspaper 20minuten, which published an image with a message posted outside the Pishcha hotel-restaurant in Hebrew.

This is not the first time that such an incident has happened in this region of Switzerland, which is very often visited by ultra-Orthodox tourists in both winter and summer.

The police announced that they opened proceedings on the fact of “discrimination and incitement of hatred”.

The establishment’s managers did not immediately respond to AFP’s contact, but told 20minuten that Jewish customers often left material on the walkways, forcing them to “pick it up when they could find it.”

In a video published by the Blick daily, local administrator Ruedi Pfiffner apologizes and points out the clumsy wording.

“I’m willing to talk to people who are interested,” says Rudy Pfiffner, who denies any anti-Semitism.

The Federation of Jewish Communities of Switzerland (FSCI) will file a complaint.

“The poster is clearly discriminatory,” condemned FSCI general secretary Jonathan Kreutner.

“A whole group of customers is labeled collectively because of their affiliation and origin,” he notes.

The Foundation Against Racism and Anti-Semitism (GRA), based in Zurich, condemned “serious anti-Semitic discrimination” in a statement.

He is calling for a “fair solution” to avoid any incidents related to the rental of equipment in the future, such as the provision of a deposit or identity document.
