Wuling is a Chinese manufacturer linked to MG’s current owners, Saic, as well as American giant General Motors. Together, they recently created a wagon for the newly launched Starlight sedan. And it must be admitted that even if so This variant of the large trunk, which is still in the planning stage, is not only sexy, but also technically attractive.
The Starlight wagon is even sexier than the sedan
Like any station wagon, which is also available in a sedan version, This large trunk Starlight shares much of its styling, both interior and exterior, with its notchback twin. The front end, the light signature, the rear bumper… all these elements are identical on both cars. After all, only its trunk changes. The trunk, the cargo volume of which promises to be more than significant, since the sedan has already reached 540 liters! A space that can obviously be increased with a roof rack, as the manufacturer illustrates in its 3D renderings. A wise choice as it makes the wagon even more desirable, much more so than the sedan anyway. The icing on the cake is that its interior does not disappoint either. Once inside, rear passengers shouldn’t lack for space either wheelbase 2.8 m. As for the passengers of the first row, they will be able to use the large screens, to which the year 2024 obliges. THE The diagonal of the digital instrument panel reaches 8.8 inches, while the central panel reaches 15.6 inches! It’s attractive, but perhaps not as powerful as the engines that Wuling would offer to fit under its hood…
2 plug-in hybrid versions and maybe even electric!
We’ve known for a long time that Chinese customers love all-electric vehicles, as well as hybrid cars that can travel long distances using only the battery. And this station wagon Starlight belongs to the second category. The sedan is already available to order in China, and exists in two different hybrid versions. Both have the same thermal part, which takes the form of a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated unit that acts as a generator. They also develop the same power of 130 kW (177 hp) and 320 Nm. The only difference between the two versions is the battery size. The first has a storage capacity of 9.5 kWh to travel about seventy kilometers entirely on electricity. The second reaches 20.5 kWh to show a maximum electric range of 150 km! Thanks to a 53-liter tank, these two PHEV variants claim a combined range of over 1,100 km once full of ions and fuel. Note thatthere is also a 100% electric version of the Starlight with a slightly different front. The bumper does not match the one seen in the 3D renderings of the wagon.
Yes, this station wagon, unfortunately, does not exist yet… And even if it saw the light, its marketing would most likely be limited to the borders of the Chinese market. Unless Saic decides to use the base of this Starlight wagon… to replace, say, the MG5? Still, we’re hopeful that whatever happens, this wagon will one day go into production.
