In your social networks Rivian has officially set the date of presentation of its R2 on March 7, 2024 with a short animation lasting a few seconds. But what do we already know about the future model of the American brand?
The Rivian R2 is more compact and affordable than the R1S and R1T
This is far from the first time Rivian has mentioned its R2 online. After talking about it a few times in interviews here and there, the manufacturer even presented their molds on video for the first time! If it was still under the tarp, we could see it clearly this R2 will actually be smaller and more compact than the current ones R1T pickup truck and the R1S SUV. On the other hand, it is also obvious that it will retain the same cubic and strong construction as the last one. Thanks to its smaller dimensions, this all-new model will also be more affordable than its two older brothers. The founder and CEO of Rivian, RJ Scaringe, never hid this and even mentioned it several times the range varies from $45,000 to $55,000 as a starting price in the United States. At the current exchange rate, this equates to an entry-level price of between €42,000 and €51,000. It’s also about $30,000 (plus or minus €28,000) less than the R1S and R1T! But it is better not to make any plans about the comet, because even if Rivian opens very soon its new R2, the latter shouldn’t hit the market until 2025 or even 2026. Thus, the initial price at that time may be revised upwards…
Rivian soon in Europe with its R2 electric SUV?
We’ve known for a long time that Rivian wants to cross the Atlantic with some of its cars so they can be sold on the Old Continent. Which could be more logical for an electric car manufacturer, when we see how much Europe is pushing the sale of the latter. SO why not already cross the Atlantic with your R1T and R1S, which are so popular in the United States? In the end, the answer is quite simple: Rivian believes that its first two models are too large for the European market. And the American brand is not wrong. Sure, it’s not an electric Hummer that requires a truck license to drive here, but we’re not that far off… Yeah. The R1S is 5.1 m long, the R1T pickup reaches 5.5 m in length! As for their corresponding mass, in both cases it flirts with 3.2 tons! Suffice it to say, it will take more than a simple B license to carry even 5 passengers in an R1S SUV, or to put anything in the back of an R1T pickup. Fortunately, this “small” problem should no longer be a problem with the new R2 series!
Will the manufacturer sell its new R2 in Europe? Nothing has been officially announced yet, but perhaps we will get the beginning of an answer during the official presentation of the model, scheduled for March 7, 2024. To be continued…
