  • “It is absolutely unfortunate that students were again put in a situation where they are in danger because the school infrastructure is outdated. After the incident at Lamnesh High School, Almora structure in Sibiu district, according to our information, four students were slightly injured, they are only superficial injuries – from the information I had so far.
  • The children were evaluated by the medical staff, I understand that they are fine. The incident took place in a building from 1936 in terms of construction date, which was rehabilitated about two decades ago.
  • Now the school is included in the rehabilitation project, and I am absolutely convinced that the investment is primarily aimed at its safety, in order to have the maximum degree of safety for the children and for the teachers who work there,” said Minister Ligia Deka, at a press conference that took place in Bystrica.

The minister added that according to the information he has, the building in which the classroom ceiling collapsed does not appear to be at seismic risk, and that he is awaiting the results of an assessment made by the Sibiu County School Inspectorate.

  • “The police opened a criminal investigation file on the commission of the crime of culpable bodily harm and the inspection of the Sibiu district school, which we contacted, is already conducting an inspection there, let’s see from the point of view of the obligations According to the education law, if everything was respected by the school management, as we know building administration is the responsibility of local public authorities.
  • We are waiting for the results of these evaluations to know what the reasons were, I cannot predict. (…) From the information I have, it (the building does not) has no seismic risk,” Ligia Deka said.

  • “The report of the supervisory body of the Ministry of Education has been completed, it has been sent to the criminal investigation authorities, because there are aspects that do not belong to our competence and the investigation is ongoing there, so what we have collected is on the Line that we, the supervisory body, have sent to them and ordered a series of disciplinary investigations for those who were supposed to oversee student safety, from the perspective of school management.
  • We did not publish the report, as it was submitted to the criminal investigation authorities, so we will not be able to make it public until the end of the investigation,” said Ligia Deka.
