It features a design inspired by the Lancia Stratos and the Pu+Ra HPE concept. The interior offers some pretty amazing features, including a multi-function desk and the innovative SALA infotainment system.
A smart combination of authenticity and modernity
After months of feverish waiting, here is finally the new Lancia Ypsilonunveiled online, giving us a sneak peek ahead of its big reveal in Milan next February 14. Sharing its platform with the Peugeot 208 and Opel Corsa, the Ypsilon aims to stand out among its technical companions with uniquely individual design and its own characteristics.
Inspired by the Lancia Pu+Ra HPE concept, the front end of the Ypsilon has a triangular appearance that Lancia has nicknamed the “bowl”. Similar to recent Citroëns or BMWs, the headlights sit low and the front bumper contains a substantial air intake. The design of the rear is reminiscent of the iconic Lancia Stratos aesthetic of the 1970s, with round LED lights and a pronounced crease that conveys the distinctive style of this iconic model.
Even though the Ypsilon has a sloping roof like its cousins, it stands out the rear door handles are cleverly hidden in the C-pillar.
He focuses attention on its interior
Inside, the Ypsilon has unique touches such as seats covered in blue velvet, a flat steering wheel and a circular platform called a “multifunction table”. This is more space where you can easily place the tablet for entertainment, for example, while charging. This intriguing table also includes a wireless charging pad and a special edition Cassina logo created in collaboration with the famous Italian furniture brand. Only 1,906 copies of this special edition will be released to the market.
The Ypsilon has a two-level cockpit with an integrated digital instrument panel and a slightly protruding central touchscreen. Under the touch screen are physical buttons that are responsible for controlling the climate control, and on the center console there is a gear selector and a start button.
As for the infotainment systems, the Ypsilon is the first car to use the SALA system (Sound Air Light Augmentation) from Lancia. This customizable widget-based system allows you to control the audio system, air conditioning and interior lighting via the central screen. Lancia describes this system as an easy way to personalize the car’s atmosphere with simple gestures or voice commands.
The Lancia Ypsilon will be launched as an electric version, followed by a mild hybrid version. See you in a few days to see it in all its glory.
