The Ukrainian military released a video on Tuesday showing a unit of Kyiv’s special forces blowing up a Russian drilling platform in the Black Sea that it said was being used by Russian forces to extend the range of their drones, Reuters reported.

In a message from Ukrainian special forces, published on Telegram, it is stated that the equipment on the platform was used for drones involved in attacks on critical infrastructure of Ukraine and to control the northwestern part of the Black Sea.

The same release said the operation, which special forces called “Citadel,” captured “critical enemy equipment” before the platform was remotely detonated.

“The successful special operation ensures the movement of ships in safer conditions and limits the capabilities of the enemy in the north-west of the Black Sea,” the message reads.

The video recording of the mission was made public by the Ukrainian special forces on Telegram, and later distributed on the “X” platform, the former Twitter, by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine:

The footage shows how a Ukrainian special forces officer lands on the platform at dawn, enters its building to plant explosives, and then watches its detonation from a considerable distance.

The Ukrainian special forces’ new success comes after an even more impressive feat last week, when they managed to sink a Russian corvette worth $70 million.
