After the tripling of heavy vehicle parking in Paris voted last weekend, it’s still bad news that could fall on the heads of Parisians who don’t use bikes, the metro or the bus to get around the capital.
Indeed, some elected Parisian members of the independent and progressive group want to lead an experiment to prohibit the use of thermal motorcycles and scooters in the evening on the streets of the capital.

A ban accompanied by purchasing aid?
“Noise is the main scourge, more than 80% of Parisians complain about noise every day. And it’s true that just one thermal scooter can wake up several thousand Parisians at night.”, explains into the microphone our colleagues from BFM Paris Île-de-France Pierre-Yves Bourzanel, councilor of Paris and co-president of the group of Independents and Progressives. Desire prohibit thermal motorcycles and scooters from 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. will be discussed at the next Paris Council starting today, Tuesday, February 6, 2024.
As Pierre-Yves Bourzanel points out, the aim is not to ban for the sake of banning, since this decision, if ratified, could be accompanied by purchase assistance, especially for an electric two-wheeler, bicycle or cargo bike. It should be noted that there is already assistance for bicycles in the region, in particular thanks to the Ile-de-France e-bike bonus, which is effective from 1Er September 2023, which is a maximum of 400 euros. Other categories of bicycles are also eligible for subsidy.
And motorcycle inspection in all this?
For their part, biker associations apparently feel that this experiment would be futile, since the noise is actually generated by two-wheeled vehicles, as well as, they say, several other factors such as “Heavy traffic on cobblestones, sirens or even signals”. We will also remind you that recently in France, the technical inspection of two-wheelers became mandatory, which should potentially reduce the number of excessively loud motorcycles and scooters on the streets of the capital.
As with cars, two-wheelers are also subject to noise regulations.
