What does Mini have in store for us in terms of new electric products in the coming years? Let’s register.
Hatch and Countryman: Mini is seriously electrifying
Mini turns into electric! After the first-generation Hatch (the name given to the “Mini Mini”), powered by the Volt and called the Cooper SE, British brand launches its first true 100% electric Mini with big fanfare for 2023, designed and engineered primarily to accommodate this type of engine. It is available with two engines and two battery sizes: Cooper E, with 184 horsepower for 305 km of range (233 km for the older generation) and Cooper SE, which increases power to 218 horsepower, 402 km range, thanks to a more powerful 54.2 kWh battery (compared to the Cooper E’s 40.7 kWh). Next to the city car, Mini has completely updated the Countryman crossover, which grew significantly and introduced 100% electric motors. Technically very close to the BMW X1, it is also available in E and SE versions. The first, with two-wheel drive, develops 204 horsepower, the second with all-wheel drive increases this figure to 313 horsepower. Endurance level varies from person to person between 462 km (E) and 433 km (SE). On the price side, it is starts from 44,000 euros in the all-wheel drive version, and in the all-wheel drive version – 49,500 euros. So, two new electric products from Mini in a very short time. Will the brand stop there? Oh no…
Aceman and Mini Cabrio…
Mini is already working on a future electric model, a crossover called the Aceman, which will be positioned just below the new Countryman. At 4.06 meters long, the Mini Aceman will be almost as big as the first generation Countryman (4.10m). Therefore, it can replace the last one in the garage of customers who are no longer attracted by the serious excess weight (4.43 m) of the new generation. The brand has already announced that it can accept 5 people and their luggage on board with “a lot of space on board in the most compact external dimensions.” But he will also and above all bear a heavy responsibility replace Mini 5 doors and Clubman, which will disappear from the catalog with the appearance of the new electric Mini Cooper. It will get a 54.2kWh battery, identical to that of the new Cooper SE. The range is still unknown, but logically it should be a little lower than that of a compact car, remember, 402 kilometers. Expected in early 2025, the Aceman will pave the way for another novelty: the future electric Mini Cabrio which should hit the market in a few months. Unsurprisingly, it should also be offered in E and SE trims…
Other projects will finally be in development for the Mini, in particular electric coupe SUV by 2026-2026, compete with Smart #3 and many upcoming Chinese SUVs…
