A 32-year-old woman was stuck on the edge of a ravine for hours after she slipped, scattering her father’s ashes on one of Wales’ highest mountains, The Guardian reports.
Kitty Harrison, a nurse, says that after her father’s ashes were scattered in the Tryfan Mountains in Snowdonia National Park, her legs buckled and she slipped. She managed to cling to the narrow edge of the ravine, where she stayed for more than three hours until she was found.
“You go from hope to fear that no one will find you. Time passed, I began to shiver from the cold, I could not move a single muscle, my legs trembled. I thought I would fall before someone found me,” the woman said, The Guardian reports.
She was rescued after being located using a cellphone GPS and a Coast Guard helicopter. However, due to the rough terrain and wind speed, the helicopter was unable to get close to the woman, so a mountain rescuer from Ogwen Mountain Rescue used a rope to descend 30 meters to reach her. In total, the rescue operation lasted seven hours.
