Israel’s military said on Saturday it had struck more than 50 Hezbollah-linked targets in Syria since the start of the war in Gaza following an attack by the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas in October, AFP and Reuters reported.

“We also attacked Hezbollah infrastructure in Syria,” army spokesman Daniel Hagari told a briefing.

“We attacked more than 50 targets from the ground and from the air,” he added, in a context where the Israeli army rarely admits it is conducting operations in Syria.

According to Hagari, Israeli forces also struck 3,400 Hezbollah targets in Lebanon, including 120 border observation posts, 40 missile and other weapons depots, and more than 40 command centers. He estimated the number of dead enemies at more than 200 people.

Hagari also said Israel had deployed three military divisions along its border with Lebanon in anticipation of Hezbollah’s intervention after Palestinian Hamas launched a shocking cross-border attack on October 7 that sparked the Gaza war.

With the evacuation of tens of thousands of northerners, Israel has threatened to escalate hostilities in Lebanon unless Hezbollah withdraws from the border and has appealed to the West for help in finding a diplomatic solution in Beirut. (Source: Agerpres)
