The general mayor of the capital, Nikusor Dan, did not approve on Thursday the idea of combining local elections with elections to the European Parliament, noting that he is horrified by the idea of starting a new election campaign when he is “in power” to continue projects in the administration.
The clarifications were made on the occasion of the nomination of USR candidate Mihaela Štefan for the post of mayor of sector 6, reports Agerpres.
“Regarding the reduction of powers… I was personally horrified. That is, I paid off my debts in a year. For two years, finally, I worked as an administrator and now I had enough strength to run the administration and run the election campaign again…” he said.
General Edil emphasized that Romanians should have the opportunity to inform themselves about aspects related to local elections.
“It is a very serious matter that the combination of local elections with elections to the European Parliament is being considered, because, simply put, it is about people’s right to vote consciously. This is the only moment when a normal citizen, who does not play politics, participates in the life of the city. It is correct that when they vote in local elections, they should inform themselves about local elections, and when they vote for European parliamentarians, they should inform themselves about European parliamentarians, and these things should not be mixed,” emphasized Nikushor Dan.
