The parents of two students killed last summer in the city on May 2 – Roberta Marina Dragomir (20 years old) and Sebastian Andrei Olariu (21 years old) – refused the mediation offered by the family of the young man who caused the accident while under the influence of drugs. The father of the student who died in the crash says he wants the maximum sentence for Vlad Pascu, while the father of the young woman who died says it will “never happen” to accept mediation that would eventually result in a reduced sentence for Vlad Pascu.

Vlada Pasku’s family offered to hold a mediation meeting with the parents of two students killed by a young drug addict on Tuesday afternoon. However, the parents of two students refused mediation.

Valentin Olaru, the father of the student who died in the accident, says he wants the maximum punishment for whoever killed his son.

“They wanted mediation. This is normal in the process. They offer a sum of money, but we have already refused. No one will go. I 100% refused. There is no such thing. Our children should not have to pay. We want the maximum punishment for them,” Sebastian Olario’s father said in an interview with Antena 3, according to News.ro.

And the father of a young woman who died in an accident caused by Vlad Pascu rejects the idea of receiving money from Vlad Pascu, saying that now his family wants mediation in the hope that the author of the accident will receive a lighter sentence.

“This will never happen. I will not buy my child’s soul for a few pieces of silver. This help in quotation marks, financial, comes too late. No one asked us, and we didn’t need it, I want to emphasize, but at least as a human gesture, someone would have asked us when we had children in the chapel. They want mediation, that is, to soften the sentence, and what? I will not sell my child’s soul for a few silver coins,” said Roberta’s father Dragomir, antena3.ro reports.

He claims that he will take them to court and take action against all the police officers who let Paska go before the accident.

“Much attention also to the gentlemen, the magistracy lady from Mangalia! Let no one try to do something, cancel something. I follow them. I am also calling the Romanian police, who were suspended at the time so that nothing would happen to Vlad Pascu, the traffic policemen, to the court. They are just as guilty as Vlad Pasku, except that they were not physically behind the wheel of the car,” Ketalin Stefan Dragomir said.

Vlad Pasku and his family made a “vile attempt” to get a possible sentence commuted, a lawyer for some of the victims accused on Saturday.

“Following the request made by (…) Mr. Pascu Matei Vlad, we inform you of an invitation to mediation with a deadline of 30.01.2024, 14:00, at our headquarters in Bucharest (…), in order to mediate in the civil actions brought by the civil parties in the case 4989.254/2023 pending in the court of Mangalia,” said the document sent to Roberta’s family by the mediator’s office.

According to the final decision made by the Constanta court on January 9, 19-year-old Vlad Pasku, who drove into two groups of eight young people under the influence of drugs on May 2, killing two students, remained in pretrial detention. .

The tragedy of May 2 and the new failure of the Romanian police

The accident happened on August 19 on DN 39 near the village of Vama Veche after Vlad Pascu drove into a group of eight young people who were walking along the roadside. Roberta Marina Dragomir (20 years old) and Sebastian Andrej Olariu (21 years old), students of the Faculty of Geography at the University of Bucharest, died on the spot. Three more young people were injured.

The tragedy of May 2 plunged the Romanian police into a new scandal, which is headed (from May 2021) by Inspector General Benone Matei under the direct supervision of Quaestor Bohdan Despescu, State Secretary of the Ministry of the Interior.

The accident revealed shocking details. Vlada Paska was stopped by the police twice – the day before the tragedy, on the filter, and the same night. He was allowed to leave the police station without a drug test, even though drugs were found in his car and the car did not have valid RCA insurance. Less than an hour later, Vlad Pasku caused an accident.

The control body of the Minister of Internal Affairs revealed a number of police errors in this case. Vlad Pascu should have been sanctioned the day before the accident, when he was stopped by the chief of the Constanta traffic police.

Katalin Predoui then announced that the head of the Constanta County Police, Adrian Gluge, had resigned. He said that in Constanta, the battle against crime has been lost for the last 5-10 years, so the entire organizational structure of the District Police Inspectorate will be “abolished and restructured”, while interim management will be in place.
