Health Minister Alexandru Rafila reports that a 24-year-old woman who was not vaccinated died of measles on Monday. He added to TVR Info that six people have died of measles recently. The minister draws attention to the fact that the disease is extremely easily transmitted, and the older the patient, the more severe the form of the disease, reports News.ro.
“It is very important to vaccinate our children and I will try to explain why because the world sometimes does not understand and in recent weeks during this measles epidemic I have encountered several acquaintances who have grown children who have become ill. If we vaccinate our children correctly, the risk of measles is very low. However, if there is a significant number of unvaccinated children – we have it differently, because with the first dose we have about 80% of children, with the second – 65%, this means that there are large cohorts of unvaccinated children – and then instead of not getting sick measles, you get measles, but you don’t know at what age you get it, and you get it at an older age.”
The minister warns that the older you get, the more serious the form of measles and cites the example of a young woman who died at the age of 24.
“Today, unfortunately, we had the death of a 24-year-old woman, unvaccinated and with another health problem that would not normally be a contraindication to vaccination, and she died. Recently, we have had about six deaths from measles. Everything could have been avoided if these people had been vaccinated. In all these cases, it was about unvaccinated people. Practically, the risk increases the older you get measles,” Alexandru Rafila told TVR Info.
He explained that measles is “perhaps the most contagious disease that exists.”
Rafila also said that the annual increase in the number of children not vaccinated against measles has led to the current situation, stressing that Romania is not the only country in this situation, and called the association of the measles vaccine with measles “nonsense”. autism, he showed that there is research that contradicts these assumptions.
Rafila reminded parents that they are vaccinated, therefore protected, and urged them to immunize their children: “We are not fanatics about vaccination, but we are aware of the benefits.”
