North Korean leader Kim Jong Un watched the launch of two cruise missiles from a submarine, state news agency KCNA reported on Monday, amid rising tensions between Seoul and Pyongyang, AFP reported.
“Cruise missiles flew into the sky over the East Sea… to hit the island target” on Sunday, KCNA reported, Agerpres said. Independent journalists did not have access to the event.
They are Pulhwasal-3-31 missiles, which North Korea said it had developed and tested last week, Reuters reported.
South Korea’s military said on Sunday it had detected cruise missiles fired near the waters off the North Korean city of Sinpo.
At the same time, the North Korean leader inspected the construction of a nuclear-powered submarine, speaking of nuclear weapons for his navy as a national priority, KCNA also reported.
