Xavi leaves FC Barcelona after three years

The management of FC Barcelona met immediately after the end of the game with Villarreal to decide on the resignation of the coach.

Immediately after the meeting, president Joan Laporta summoned Xavi, who was tasked with announcing his departure from the club on June 30, writes Marca.

Laporta and Xavi spoke for a few minutes, and the Catalan coach delivered his speech very calmly.

“I want to inform you that as of June 30, I will no longer be a coach. We have discussed and the situation deserves a change of direction.

I made a decision a few days ago, the club needs a change. I think about the club, about the football players, they develop with too much tension.

It’s best to go, but until then I’ll do my best. I think we can have a great season,” Xavi announced at the end of the game against Villarreal.

As a player, Xavi played for FC Barcelona for 17 years, amassing 505 games and 58 goals. He took charge of the technical bench in 2021 after his experience at Al Sadd.

With 3 losses and 5 draws in 21 games this season, the Catalans are third in La Liga with 44 points, ten behind leaders Real Madrid.
