“The statistics of the Court for the year 2023 indicate a decrease in the number of complaints received and distributed for consideration by the panel of judges. This can mainly be explained by the decrease in the number of distributed claims coming from Russia, Turkey, Serbia and Greece,” the ECtHR report states. “In 2023, 34,650 cases were transferred to judicial panels, which is 24% less compared to 2022 (45,500),” the message says.

In 2023, Turkey had the largest number of cases referred to the commission – 8,341.

The countries of the Balkans and Central Europe also had many files. In 2023, there were 2,821, 2,469, and 1,843 cases in Romania, Hungary, and Poland, respectively. Serbia – 1552, Croatia – 1012, Moldova – 653 and Greece – 541. /…/
