Aryna Sabalenko brought her team and family after winning the Australian Open 2024 final

The player, who is ranked No. 2 in the world, said that she could not imagine that she would be able to win the Daphne Ahurst trophy for the second time in a row. Aryna thanked those who are with her and admitted that her performances are always strange.

Qinwen played very good matches. I know it’s hard to lose in the finals, I’ve been there too. I didn’t think I could win this trophy again.

Giving speeches is not my superpower, I always mess up. Thanks to the team, I could never have done it without you, but you also wouldn’t be here without me. I thank the fans for their support, I hope to come back next year and lift this trophy again

I never talk about my family in these speeches, but I have to thank them for everything they have done for me.

Do I still speak English? They will not understand me. But I hope they will translate. I love you so much, you are my biggest motivation and everything I do, I do for you. I send you my love and miss you so much. Thank you” – Aryna Sabalenkoat the award ceremony.

  • Aryna Sabalenko also won the 2023 competition in Melbourne: 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the final against Olena Rybakina.
  • Sabalenko is now 2-0 in matches against Qinwen Zheng, also beating her in the quarterfinals of the 2023 US Open (6-1, 6-4).
  • Aryna is the ninth Open Era player to win back-to-back women’s singles titles at the Australian Open, following Margaret Court, Evonne Goulagong, Steffi Graf, Monica Seles, Martina Hingis, Jennifer Capriati, Serena Williams and Victoria Azarenka.
  • Sabalenko became the second athlete in this century who reached the finals of Grand Slam tournaments on hard courts three times in a row. Previously, only Victoria Azarenka managed it (Australian Open 2012, 2013 and US Open 2012, 2013).
  • The last player to win a Grand Slam without losing a set was Ashley Barty (Australian Open 2022).

  • Reaching the final is Zheng’s best result at Grand Slam tournaments.
  • Thanks to the trip from Melbourne, Zheng will enter the WTA TOP-10 for the first time (he will take 7th place).
