The White House on Friday expressed concern over fake images of pop singer Taylor Swift in pornographic poses online, stressing the important role social media companies play in preventing such acts of misinformation, Reuters reported.

“This is very disturbing. And we will do everything possible to resolve this problem,” White House spokeswoman Karin Jean Pierre said at a press conference, adding that the legislative forum should take measures in this regard, writes Agerpres.

America’s political class and fans of the singer were outraged on Friday after fake porn images of the singer, created with the help of generative artificial intelligence, were broadcast on X and other platforms.

One of these images was viewed more than 47 million times on X (formerly Twitter) and was only taken down more than 17 hours after it was posted.

While her popularity is reaching new heights in the United States, Taylor Swift, named Time magazine’s 2023 Person of the Year, has become the subject of some of the craziest conspiracy theories circulating on social media. The latter allege that the American artist is a Pentagon pawn recruited by the Democratic Party to influence the outcome of the 2024 presidential election, AFP reported earlier in January.
