Large STLA platform: which Stellantis models will be equipped with it? Auto Plus news in your smartphone Auto Plus news in your inbox

At the time of the merger of the FCA and PSA groups, the Stellantis group had no less than 14 platforms (for the same number of brands…). Seven at Chrysler, five at Fiat and two at PSA. still today most sold models are equipped with these platformsbut they are beginning to show the weight of years.

The ambition of Stellantis is, above all, to take advantage of the electrification of the ranges to fully review the synergy between the different brands. And that will obviously involve platforms, these structures that cost millions, if not sometimes billions, to develop.

A platform for high-quality models from Stellentis

Ultimately, Stellantis will build all of its models on four common platforms, called STLA Small, STLA Medium, STLA Large and STLA Frame, equally suitable for thermal and electric models. Today we already know the Medium on which the new Peugeot 3008 is based. This platform will also be available on the upcoming Citroën C5 Aircoss, Jeep Compass and Opel Grandland. While waiting for the others, Stellantis provides more details about the large version, which is intended for high-end models. Its modularity will accommodate large vehicles, up to 5.13 meters in length, 2.03 meters in width, 3.07 meters in wheelbase.
But which models will benefit from this? In France, apart from a few specific models, we don’t necessarily have to see the color, since this platform will not be equipped with models of French brandsnamely Peugeot, Citroën and DS.

More than 800 km of autonomy

It will initially be produced in the United States and Italy, at the Cassino plant, where the Alfa Romeo Stelvio and Giulia are already assembled. But these models won’t win. Eight models based on the STLA Large platform will be released between 2024 and 2026.. You’ll have to go to the US first to discover it, as it will be powered by the Dodge Charger EV, which will launch in the fall of 2024.
Then comes the Jeep Wagoneer S (coming to Europe in 2025), then two Alfa Romeos will also be equipped with it by 2026, the new Stelvio in 2025 and the new Giulia a year later. The Chrysler model will be entitled to this platform, and the replacement Maserati Levante and the upcoming Quattroporte will be equipped with it. Batteries, 400 V or 800 V depending on the configuration, will have capacity from 85 to 118 kW/h, and will be able to accept to Charging power 270 kW.

The maximum autonomy can be greater than 800 km for the most expensive versions.
