
BMW will launch six electric models on the new Neue Klasse platform, which should be very different from what exists in the electric market. This is the largest investment in the history of the brand and a long-term bet. The first models will appear on the market at the end of 2025.
Ten years ago, BMW launched its first electric car, the i3, which was different from what was on the market at the time. The Bavarians now have a long-term plan, which they have announced several times over the past year, and they want to significantly increase their electricity sales.

The first models of the Neue Klasse series will be an SUV and a mid-size sedan, which should enter the market by the end of 2025.
The iX3 SUV will be manufactured at a new plant to be opened in Debeczen, Hungary. A larger version will be created in China. In 2026, production of the 3-series electric sedan will begin in Germany. This model will be built in Mexico and China.
A coupe-like sedan called the iX4 is also due in 2026, with a wagon version coming a year later. The compact SUV, designed to replace the iX1 model, will appear in four years.
In 2021, BMW announced its Neue Klasse strategy for the first time, which it says is “a clear vision for the future of the BMW brand: electric, digital and circular.”
“30% more autonomy, 30% faster charging, 25% more efficiency – the Neue Klasse represents a big technological leap that will take EfficientDynamics to a new level. The same goes for its design, which couldn’t be more futuristic,” said Frank Weber, a member of BMW’s board of directors, in the fall of 2023.
“The Neue Klasse design is characteristic of BMW and is so progressive that it seems as if we have skipped a model generation,” said Adrian van Hooydonk, BMW’s head of design, explaining that something like this is needed because more and more market players in segments of electrical engineering.
The integration of the battery into the body structure is different from other cars, as is the type of battery cells, the idea is to reduce overall weight and lower production costs.
In Romania, BMW had record sales in 2023, surpassing 5,000 units for the first time, including the Mini brand.
