Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has been criticized on social media for using a presidential helicopter to attend a concert by British rock band Coldplay in a province north of the capital Manila, Reuters reported.
More than 40,000 spectators flocked to the Philippine Arena, the world’s largest indoor arena, for Coldplay’s concert, which led to “unforeseen complications along the route,” the Presidential Security Group said in a statement, News.ro reported.
The traffic situation posed a security threat to President Marcos, who attended a concert Friday night with his wife, prompting the use of the presidential helicopter, he added.

But social media users criticized the use of taxpayers’ money by Marcos, the son of the president whose rule ended nearly four decades ago in a historic “people power” revolution.
“Using official resources, such as the presidential helicopter, for personal and unofficial activities is generally considered an abuse of power or misuse of government resources,” Facebook user James Patrick Aristorenas wrote in a post on Saturday.
“I paid for the helicopter, fuel and security, who knows, maybe even the tickets,” commented Arvin Concepcion, another Facebook user.
Coldplay has scheduled two concerts this year in Bucharest, at the National Arena, on June 12 and 13.
