The National House of Health Insurance (CNAS) has under its control 41 districts, including the municipality of Bucharest. These institutions manage one of the largest budgets in the country, the health insurance budget, which is about 62 billion lei this year. Last week, the DNA prosecutor’s office opened a criminal case against the head of Maramures health insurance, accused of accepting bribes from several businessmen and hospital directors in the county for the smooth development of several government contracts.
Carmen Eleonora Prodan heads CAS Maramureș since September 2015, having been the institution’s executive director since 2009. Her latest wealth declaration, filed in 2023, shows considerable assets: two apartments, one of which is in the capital, two plots of land and an apartment inherited from her husband, a retired police officer, bank deposits of 660,000 lei and a Volvo XC60 , 2018, which was bought in 2022 by the former director of the district house.
