If Ukraine does not defeat Russia, it will end badly for Europe, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielus Landsbergis told AFP on Thursday, warning that the Russian army could try to advance further into the European continent.
The head of diplomacy of this Baltic state spoke on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, where the war in Ukraine dominated. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy attended the event for the first time in almost two years of the conflict, seeking to garner more support.
Gabrielius Landsbergis said Europe had “failed to wake up to the reality” that what was happening in Ukraine was “Europe’s war” and called on the continent to do more to prepare for possible aggression from other European countries by Russia , reports Agerpres.
“There is no scenario in which, if Ukraine does not win, it can end well for Europe,” the Lithuanian minister warned, stressing that “Russia may not be limited to Ukraine.”
One way Europe could do more to defend itself would be to do “joint procurement, we could buy the things we need to defend Europe,” Landsbergis said.
“Some of us may have thought that someone else had to handle it or do the hard work. But this is Europe’s war,” he insisted.
However, Landsbergis welcomed numerous discussions regarding Ukraine, including at a very high level, within the framework of the Davos Forum.
Kyiv and its allies used this international meeting to try to counter any lethargy about a conflict involving Ukrainians that could arise after the war in Gaza began.
