In the second round of the Australian Open 2024, Hugo Sviatek faced a tough test, but the WTA leader staged an impressive comeback in the deciding set of the match against the American Danielle Collins and qualified for the next round.

Iga Sviatek, coming back from 1-4 in the deciding set with Danielle Collins

The main favorite of the competition in Melbourne is Iga with a decisive victory in the last two games against the athlete from the USA (6-1, 6-0), but she had a much more difficult match at the Rod Laver Arena.

Svyatek emotionally won the first set (6-4, from 1-3), but clearly lost the second set (6-3 for Collins) and the American led in the decisive set with two breaks (4-1).

Five games in a row were won by Iga Svyatek, who won after almost three hours of play, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.

Know:

  • At the end of the match, Danielle Collins (2022 Australian Open finalist) announced that this would be her last season in the WTA tournament.
  • In the third round in Melbourne, Iga Svyatek will play against the Czech Linda Noskova (50 WTA, 19 years old). They have met only once before, and the Pole won 6-1, 6-4 (Warsaw 2023).
