Belgium’s presidency of the EU Council began on January 1, 2024, and with it a race against time until June 6-9, when we will elect our new European leaders.

Belgium presides over the EU Council for the thirteenth time, this time at a crossroads – in the midst of a war on the Union’s border, trying to unravel the consequences of the pandemic, to overcome the energy crisis, the conflict in the Middle East, and above all, the Euroscepticism, political extremism and disinformation that we will see more and more and more in our lives, until June.

June 6-9, the days when the new legislative body of the European Parliament will be elected, representing 450 million citizens. Why should we care? Because, together with the legislative power, we will elect new heads of European institutions, who will set strategic directions and outline the framework of our life for the next 5 years.

Built around 6 priorities, the Belgian Presidency aims above all to restore citizens’ trust in the European institutions by taking action to solve the pressing problems facing the EU.
