It is about “a better paid leave, shorter than the current parental leave, which can last up to three years and which removes many women from the labor market,” the French president announced at a press conference on Tuesday, among other things. Emmanuel Macron.

“He will allow two parents to stay with the child for six months if they want,” the head of state said.

He believes that the current vacation “creates a lot of anxiety because it is extremely small and poorly paid” and thus creates “impossible situations.”

According to the Elysée Palace, the idea is to “unlock the economic and social barriers to having children.”

In November, Solidarity Minister Aurore Berge promised to introduce this “new right” for families by 2025.

At the time, she announced that this leave “could exist in parallel” with the current parental leave, which is currently paid at €429 a month.
