with In 2022, 219,000 cars were sold worldwide (final figures for 2023 have not yet been released), an American manufacturer Dodge is struggling. One only has to see the Olympic form of his opponents to understand all the difficulties he faces. That year Ford sold 1,864,000 units and Chevrolet 1,502,000! And let’s not even talk about Chrysler, Dodge’s premium sister, which only sold 128,000… The brand is struggling a lot due to a sharp lack of new functions, on the one hand, and on the other hand, the gradual withdrawal of several of his models, in particular the most historical ones. That’s how it is in 2023. Charger and Challenger made their grand departure, with the final revision titled The Last Call. The Durango SUV, as we recently learned, just happened lose the V8 engine.

All electric for Dodge

So the Dodge lineup is now very thin. Durango, which has been produced since 2010, continues its career, but only with six-cylinder units. (V6, 6-row). It’s a shame that most of its sales come from its sporty V8 versions. The appearance of the Hornet compact SUV (Alfa Romeo Tonale clone), the first new product in years, should help the brand reinvent itself. But the real challenge that awaits him is electrification. RAM, formerly the pickup division and now an independent brand, has released the 1500 REV electric pickup truck. Chrysler, its sister brand, will release the Airflow electric SUV by 2025-2026, followed by an electric sedan soon. to replace the 300C, which had just been discontinued. For Dodge, salvation will come from a completely different model: the Charger, which is preparing to return as 100% electric.

The charger is back!

The information is not new: at the presentation in 2022 of the Charger Daytona SRT concept, the color has already been announced. But today the pre-production version reveals a little more, thanks to photos published by the brand on Instagram. Good news, neo-retro design, inspired by the original charger, is in the app! It has a familiar silhouette, Dodge’s new three-dot logo, and LED lights front and rear. Also note the absence of an exhaust pipe in these images, confirmation that it will indeed be offered in electric form. At least for the Daytona version, because rumor has it that Dodge will also introduce a thermal version of its chargerincluding one powered by the 3.0-liter inline-six engine from the Jeep Wagoneer L, which may develop here from 420 to 510 horsepower. Its final unveiling is nearing: Dodge has confirmed that it is slated for late 2024…
