Launched in 2020 Toyota GR Yaris is one of the last representatives of the sports city car segment. Despite the species being threatened with extinction due to overly strict CO2 sanctions, Toyota is fighting back and continuing the career of its GR Yaris with new development for 2024.

The main modification concerns turbo gasoline engine, which remains the most powerful 3-cylinder engine in the world: it has been developed to offer even more power and torque. It gets 19 horsepower and 30 Nm of torque, and now delivers 280 horsepower at 390 Nm of torque. In particular, Toyota strengthened the valvetrain, used a new material for the exhaust valves, increased the fuel injection pressure, added new pistons with wear-resistant rings, and added a new intake pressure sensor.

Toyota GR Yaris: the most powerful three-cylinder engine in the world

The improvement of the mechanics of this sporty Yaris is accompanied by the appearance of a new one eight-speed automatic transmission, which is called the “Gazoo Racing Direct Automatic Transmission” and is designed for ultra-fast performance, especially when downshifting. Rest assured, it will be offered as an option, and the six-speed iMT manual transmission will still be standard. Everything is connected with the GR-Four system permanent four-wheel drive with electronic control.

The special chassis of the GR Yaris has been further strengthened with a more rigid body thanks to a 13% increase in the number of spot welds and the use of approximately 24% more structural adhesive. The suspension has also been tuned, with stiffer springs and stiffened front shock absorbers to provide better high-speed performance.

Launch in the spring of 2024

Within, cabin was completely transformed, p better ergonomics inspired by competition. The center console is turned towards the driver, and the instrument panel is located lower for a better view. The driver’s seat has also been lowered by 25mm for a better driving position. There is also a new one 12.3-inch digital instrument panel adjustable, with two modes (Normal and Sport).

The Toyota GR Yaris lineup has been streamlined and is now on offer a unique version of “Track”. : Includes Performance Cooling Package with additional radiator, intercooler and modified air intake. Some changes can also be seen on the exterior, with a new steel mesh for the lower grille, a larger side grille opening, a two-piece lower screen, and a new opening on the rear skirt. The new body color “Platinum Grey” also complements the catalog.

This new evolution of the Toyota GR Yaris will be sold in France at spring 2024. Two special series will also be in the program: GR Yaris Sebastian Ogier AND Calle Rovanperanamed after two Toyota Gazoo Racing drivers in the WRC World Rally Championship.
