Elise Mertens v Emma Navarro, in the WTA Hobart final

The two-time winner of the Tasmanian competition (in 2017 and 2018, after the finals with Monica Niculescu and Mihaela Buzernescu), Mertens played a difficult match with Daria Saville (ex-Gavrilova/195 WTA).

The Belgian (29 WTA) needed almost three hours to win 6-4, 4-6, 7-5.

In Friday’s other semifinal, Emma Navarro (31 WTA) edged China’s Yue Yuan (73 WTA), 6-4, 6-3.

For the Belgian Elise Mertens, it will be the 13th final in her career (8 titles), and Navarro will play in the match for the trophy for the first time.

The Hobart International will take place from January 8 to 13 on hard, is part of the WTA 250 category, has a total prize money of $267,082, and the champion title is Lauren Davis (2023).
