I have a lot to do lately European news from the Stellantis group. New Peugeot e-3008, Citroën ë-C3 and Fiat 600e, the revival of Lancia with the Ypsilon, the future of Alfa Romeo Milano, Fiat Panda, Peugeot e-5008 and Jeep Recon… After the theory of refining and repositioning each brand at the time of the Fiat/Chrysler and PSA merger, it was time to practice with this avalanche of models. ! But Stellantis is a Franco-Italian-American group: apart from Jeep, which we’ve been hearing a lot about in recent months (the Avenger was named European Car of the Year 2023), the group’s other American brands are somewhat…forgotten ! Because on the other side of the Atlantic there is also Stellantis Chrysler and Dodge ! But these once prestigious and dynamic brands are now losing momentum. And the term is weak…

Chrysler + Dodge = only 3 models

In 2022, they sold only 347,000 cars worldwide, including 128,000 Chrysler and 219,000 Dodge). Walloo, next to 1,864,000 Fords and 1,502,000 Chevrolets! The Big Three, the historical term for the three major American car manufacturers, would rather be the Big Two today, as Chrysler is small compared to its competitors. There is a volume logic in this: Chrysler and Dodge have only… 3 models left! Compared to about fifteen for Ford and about fifteen for Chevrolet. Chrysler has indeed just removed its 300C sedan from the catalog, which already dates back to 2011: it comes with a final run limited to 2,200 copies! It’s the same story with Dodge, with the departure of the Charger (which dates back to 2006) and the Challenger (2008). So what is left for them?

The end of the Durango V8

For Chrysler, there is only one model, the Pacificaa large MPV launched in 2016 to replace the Town&Country (our late European Voyager). The Dodge Hornet will appear in 2023, is a rare novelty of the manufacturer in recent years. It’s not even a Dodge product, as it’s actually an Alfa Romeo Tonale reworked for the North American market. The second model that remains in the assortment Durango, released in 2010. It still attracted some interest due to the sporty versions equipped with a V8. Well, guess what, the end! Dodge Announces Discontinuation of Durango V8 with Limited Edition ‘Last Call’ : this is the six-cylinder in-line “Hurricane” that will now take over. So how can we get the two manufacturers back on track? Salvation will be in electricity! Chrysler will release the Airflow SUV from 2025and by 2028 – the new electric 300C Dodge the Daytona Electric Charger In the coming years. Before, the group will have to rely on Jeep and RAM to survive in North America…
