Mexican singer and actor Adan Canto, known for his roles in the films “X-Men: Days of Future Past”, “Game of Agents”, as well as in the TV series “Narcos” or “The Cleaning Lady”, died at an old age. 42 years old, reports The Associated Press and news.ro
Publicist Jennifer Allen said Adan Canto died of appendix cancer and chose to keep his diagnosis a secret.
“Adan had a depth of spirit that few really knew. Those who saw him were forever changed,” Allen wrote in a statement. “He will be greatly missed by many,” she added.
Born in Ciudad Acuña, Coahuila, Mexico, and raised in Texas, Canto began his career at the age of 16 when he left his home in Mexico City to work as a singer-songwriter. Then he started acting, making his television debut in 2009 in the Mexican series “Estado de Gracia”.
His American debut came later in 2013 in the Fox drama series The Following, produced by Kevin Williamson and starring Kevin Bacon.
His notable roles include Vice President-elect Aaron Shore in Designated Survivor, Colombian politician Rodrigo Lara Bonilla in Narcos, and the mutant Sunspot in X-Men: Days of Future Past.
Kanto starred in Halle Berry’s directorial debut In Bruises, as well as Agent Game.
He also directed his first short film in 2014 and his second in 2020, a provocative western starring Theo Rossi.
At the time of his death, Canto was playing the role of Armand Morales on Fox’s The Cleaning Girl, which is currently in its third season. He was unable to participate in the production due to illness, but hoped to return later this season.
Kanto had a big smile and a boisterous laugh. His friends said he also had a sensitivity and modesty that might seem at odds with the lead actor’s large frame and square jaw.
Kiefer Sutherland, who starred alongside Kanto in Designated Survivor, shared a tribute on his Instagram page.
“Seems like I’ve had to do too many posts like this lately, but I’m heartbroken over the loss of Adan Canto. He was such a great spirit,” Sutherland captioned a photo of the two on the plateau.
“As an actor, his drive to play well, to be great, and then to be even better, was truly impressive and I will miss him greatly. I am also heartbroken for his wife Steph and his two young children. Adan, may you rest in peace,” the actor added.
Canto is survived by his wife, Stephanie Ann Canto, and two children: Roman Alder, 3, and Eva Josephine, 18 months.
“Forever my treasure Adane, see you soon,” his wife wrote on her Instagram account.
