Coco Gauf, the WTA Auckland champion for the second year in a row
It took the 19-year-old American two hours and 35 minutes to defeat the experienced athlete from Ukraine 6-7(4), 6-3, 6-3.
Gauff becomes the fourth player to win back-to-back titles in Oakland, joining Patty Fendick (1988 and 1989), Elena Daniilidu (2003 and 2004) and Julia Goerges (2018 and 2019).
This is Coco’s seventh career title: Linz (2019), Parma (2021), Oakland (2023, 2024), Washington, Cincinnati, US Open (2023). He also played in the 2022 Roland Garros final.
ASB Classic in Auckland (New Zealand) takes place from January 1 to 7 on hard. It has a total prize pool of $267,082 and is part of the “WTA 250”. The last champions are Serena Williams (2020) and Coco Gauff (2023).
