However, Denmark will deliver the first six fighters sometime in the second quarter, the Danish ministry said.
“According to the current calendar, the donation should be delivered in the second quarter of 2024,” the Danish Defense Ministry said in a press release sent to AFP, while Ukrainian pilots are currently undergoing training on Danish territory, Agerpres reports.
“This concerns, in particular, the completion of the training of the Ukrainian personnel who will fly the planes after this donation,” the message reads.
Denmark, which is replacing its F-16s with more modern F-35s, has promised Ukraine 19 aircraft. The Netherlands, which also participates in the training of Ukrainian pilots, is to transfer 42 devices of this type, but has not made public its calendar.
In his New Year’s message, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi assured that pilots in his country already have these devices, which he expects to see flying in Ukrainian skies this year.
“The training calendar depends on a number of factors, such as material and weather conditions,” the Danish ministry warned.
As of February 2022, Denmark’s military support to Ukraine amounted to 16.8 billion crowns (2.2 billion euros).
