Didn’t you think that artificial intelligence was only there to make your life easier by letting you free yourself from tedious tasks? No, obviously, and the legislator will remind you!

You probably already know a lot about radars, but you don’t yet know about radars equipped with artificial intelligence. According to Le Parisien journalists, AI will soon be used to spot drivers who don’t follow reserved lane rules for buses, taxis and self-driving cars..

Too few controls now?

These particular lanes, which we regularly talk to you about on Auto Plus, are marked with a white diamond on a blue (or black) background. The rule is simple: if you are alone in the car, you cannot drive this route. If there are several of you, then everything is fine.

Despite this, some motorists ignore the bans, hoping to avoid, in most cases, traffic jams. To ensure compliance with these channels, the government plans to automate part of the verbalization process.

currently offenders face a fixed fine of 135 eurosbut law enforcement inspections remain sporadic, even if a few radars have recently appeared in some areas.

To put an end to this impunity, the government plans to introduce remote monitoring of vehicle interiors. According to sources close to the case, a corresponding decree may be issued.

Humans will always be behind technology for now

Road companies can already use high-tech cameras and artificial intelligence algorithms to count the number of passengers in a vehicle even at very high speeds. And for those who have the good idea to put an inflatable doll as a passenger, know that this is not enough to fool the system!

A two-year pilot phase is planned for about ten reserved lane projects, focusing mainly on car sharing and public transport. Let us clarify that the involvement of AI does not mean the introduction of verbalizing robots. Crime surveillance will always be done by humans, and agents will compile electronic reports based on information provided by technological devices.
