The Russian Ministry of Defense acknowledged the accidental bombing of a village in western Russia, located near the border with Ukraine, but said there were no casualties.

Citing an “accidental explosion of ammunition” carried by an Air Force plane, the ministry told Russian news agencies that the explosion occurred in the village of Petropavlivka in the Voronezh region, 150 km from Ukraine, around 09:00 on Tuesday.

“There are no casualties, but seven buildings have been destroyed,” regional governor Oleksandr Gusev reported on Telegram, adding that some residents had to be placed in shelters.

Russia, which has stepped up its bombing of Ukraine in recent days, launched a new series of strikes on Tuesday morning, killing at least five people and wounding more than 100 in the neighboring country.
