Since September 2022, Russia has launched about 3,800 kamikaze drones over Ukraine, Ukrainian Air Force spokesman Yuriy Ignat said on Sunday on national television, Kyiv Independent reports.

Russia included the use of kamikaze unmanned aerial vehicles in its arsenal as early as September 2022, along with the use of ballistic and cruise missiles, the production of which is more expensive.

The goal was to overcome the capabilities of Ukraine’s air defense system.

Despite the fact that Ukraine’s air defense has been able to successfully destroy most of these drones, air defense remains a significant problem in 2024, Ignat believes.

“About 3,000 of these drones were destroyed by the defense forces. This is something we should think about. We still need more systems to counter strike drones,” he said.
