Almost all the big movies released in 2023 can now be streamed from home, from blockbusters that confirmed their status to those that showed promise but failed to attract moviegoers to theaters.
The times when our What’s New Streaming? meant almost exclusively “What’s on Netflix this month?” they have already become a thing of the past after the arrival of HBO Max, Disney+ and SkyShowtime in Romania in the last two years.
Of course, for a while we also had HBO Go, that poorer cousin of HBO Max that didn’t have many of the movies and TV series streaming in the United States and other markets where subscriptions were more expensive. And Amazon Prime, which was launched in Romania in 2016, the same year that Netflix appeared here, only recently started investing in its own big-budget production.
But with the launch in the local market of SkyShowtime, a platform that broadcasts films from Paramount and Universal studios, Romania has almost completely joined the “rich world” in terms of streaming. In other words, if a movie is streaming in the United States, it’s almost certainly also on one of the platforms available in Romania.
In this regard, it is encouraging that, considering the latest December releases, 8 of the 10 highest-grossing films in cinemas in 2023, as well as many others released this year, can now be seen at home and by customers in Romania. .
Of course, some of them should be seen first in cinemas, but the fact that more and more viewers prefer to watch full-length films intended for the big screen without leaving their own homes is a reality that even Hollywood executives have had to admit.
Where can you stream blockbusters in 2023?
As the year draws to a close and it’s almost certain that we won’t see any dramatic changes in the rankings, here’s a list of the 10 most-watched movies in theaters in 2023, their grosses, and the streaming platforms where we can see them. for those who have:

Other big movies released in 2023 that you can watch at home right now
Obviously, the new movies of the year don’t just mean those that made the top 10, and many of the big-budget feature films that came out this year and were top-grossers at the time of their release are now available on streaming platforms as well.
Here’s what it is, along with a few others that their producers had high hopes for but disappointed at the box office:
- Transformers: Rise of the Beasts – broadcast on SkyShowtime from December 15;
- Meg 2: Trench – broadcast on HBO Max from September 29;
- Indiana Jones and the Dial of Fate – streaming on Disney+ from December 15;
- Flash – broadcast on HBO Max from August 25;
- Nun II – broadcast on HBO Max from October 27;
- Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves – broadcast on SkyShowtime from September 29;
- Cry VI – streaming on Netflix from July 8;
- Evil Dead Rise – broadcast on HBO Max from June 23 with direct translation Book of the Dead: Demonic Possession;
- Shazam! Wrath of the Gods – broadcast on HBO Max from May 23;
- Blue beetle – broadcast on HBO Max from November 17;
- Ghosts in Venice – broadcast on Disney+ from November 22;
- Haunted mansion – broadcast on Disney+ from October 4;
- Cocaine Bear – broadcast on SkyShowtime from September 24;
- Papal Exorcist – broadcast on HBO Max from October 22;
- A knock on the cabin – broadcast on SkyShowtime from September 17 with live translation A house at the edge of the worldi.
The most conspicuous absence from the list is Netflix, its only name Cry VI, licensed. But that’s because Netflix makes original movies for direct streaming on its platform, not in theaters.
