Russia has announced it has called for a meeting of the UN Security Council after Saturday’s attack in Belgorod, which killed at least 14 people and which it blames on Ukraine, reports AFP.

“We have invited a meeting of the Security Council regarding Belgorod at 3:00 p.m. New York time,” Deputy Ambassador of Russia to the UN Dmytro Polyansky reported on Telegram.

“According to the latest information, 12 adults and two children died in Belgorod. In addition, 108 people were injured, including 15 children,” he wrote in the Telegram of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia.

Russia warns that the attack on Belgorod will not go “unpunished”

The Ministry of Defense of Russia assured on Saturday that the deadly strike in Belgorod will not go “unpunished”, blaming the Ukrainian army for it, reports AFP.

“This attack will not go unpunished,” the ministry said on Telegram, saying it had intercepted two rockets and “most” shells fired at the city.
