After several images leaked online, the Chinese company Xiaomi has finally decided to break its silence by officially unveiling its new sedan, the Xiaomi SU7.
The launch of the SU7 took place during a conference organized by Lei Jung, Xiaomi’s CEO, who played an active role in the development of this car, personally testing more than 150 different models to develop what he says is the biggest vehicle. competitive.
Impressive autonomy… but not now
Xiaomi announces length 4.99 meters, wheelbase 3.00 meters, width 1.96 meters and height 1440 meters for its new model. The dimensions are similar to the best European sedans on the market and in between the Mercedes EQE and EQS or Tesla Model S.
With a drag coefficient (Cd) of just 0.195, the SU7 is one of the best on the market in this field. It is slightly ahead of the Lucid Air and barely worse than the Lightyear 0. The car has an 800-volt architecture, allowing the sedan to recover 220 km in 5 minutes and 510 km in 15 minutes.
The Modena platform, fully developed by Xiaomi, can also accommodate a battery with a capacity of up to 150 kWh, providing a range of up to 1,260 kilometers according to China’s CLTC cycle. According to the WLTP cycle, a little stricter, autonomy remains impressive and should be around 1,100 km. This final version is not yet available.
With two V6s and one V8
Under the hood we find two V6s and a V8, but not necessarily the ones you imagine. This is actually the name of the available electric engines: HyperEngine V6, V6s and HyperEngine V8. The base model, the V6, claims 299 horsepower and 400 Nm of torquewhile the V6 achieves 374 horsepower and 500 Nm.
The top model V8 is being developed with a capacity of 578 horsepower with a maximum torque of 635 Nm. The car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.78 seconds, enough to compete with the best sports cars on the market.
The SU7 is equipped with a CTB (cell-to-body) battery that contains LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) cells in the chassis. This not only saves space, but also strengthens the structure. Two battery capacities will be available, namely 73.6 and 101 kWh respectively range from 668 to 800 kilometers on the Chinese CLTC cycle.
Smartphone on wheels in Xiaomi SU7?
The car is equipped with the Xiaomi Pilot autonomous driving system, which runs on two NVIDIA DRIVE Orin chips, as well as radars and cameras of all kinds. The sedan is equipped with a LiDAR sensor on the roof.
The interior of the SU7 does not shake the category with a 7.1-inch digital instrument panel, a large 16.1-inch central screen compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. However, the 56-inch projection display in augmented reality is impressive.
We will know more about the launch date (which should be in 2024) and pricing in a few months. At the moment, Xiaomi SU7 is planned only for the Chinese market, but it is possible that it will land in Europe someday. In any case, she would have every reason to do so.
