And it is not for nothing that they are no less 5,600 cars burned in just a few days at the beginning of last July. And, obviously, this is not without consequences, because the number of cars sent to the landfill has increased dramatically. This is explained by the SRA (Automotive Safety and Repair), which studied the exact consequences of these disturbances, as well as losses, which increased by 1.5 to 3 times compared to the average of last summer. The number of VEIs (economically non-renewable vehicles) has increased in particular, accounting for 39.3% of registered losses.
High cost
But that’s not all, because the cost of repairs has also increased dramatically, about 10%. And inevitably, this should be partly reflected in the price of insurance, which will increase next year. The SRA, for its part, points out that “this study, although not covering non-expert vehicles, illustrates a significant increase in the number, as well as costs, of vandalism, arson claims during the 2023 summer riots.” From now on, we will also have to be vigilant for the New Year in a few days…
