2030 year. This is the date when Volvo committed to offering only 100% electric models. An ambitious goal that is 5 years ahead of most of its competitors, especially since then the brand currently offers 7 thermal models in its European range: sedans S60 and S90, station wagons V60 and V90, SUVs XC40, XC60, XC90. But the transition to electricity has already begun. Already in 2020, Volvo offered its XC40 in a power version XC40 Recharge. A year later, its coupe version appeared, which was offered only in an electric version: the Refueling C40. 2023 was an opportunity release the successor to the XC90: the EX90, a large 7-seater SUV that promises 600 kilometers of autonomy. The last, finally the compact EX30 and its 475 km range open for order in France from this summer.

EX60, ES60 and ES90…

So “what’s next”? In 2024, it was the turn The SUV of the XC60 family will be available in a 100% electric version: it will be called the EX60 and will compete with the current Audi Q4 e-tron and the Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV in particular. Next year will also be significant arrival of Juggernaut EM90, the first minivan in Volvo history, 5.20 m long and also 100% electric. This is a model that will be aimed mainly at the Chinese market, which is very fond of this type of model. Its arrival in Europe, and therefore in France, is much more uncertain. This is another Chinese Zeekr 009: its 116 kWh battery allows 738 km of autonomy in the Chinese cycle, and its single engine delivers 268 horsepower to the front wheels. Later, in 2026 Volvo will launch its first 100% electric sedan and the upcoming S60 replacement: it may be called the ES60.

Volvo’s newest hybrid

in front of her Volvo will update another of its sedans: the large S90. It will still be offered in a hybrid version similar to the current one (which is no longer sold in France), but will be offered also an electric variant that could be called the ES90. Volvo’s latest hybrid is to be offered here only in 100% electric form: it will be based on the new Geely SAE2 platform (a Volvo owner since 2010), on which the Volvo EX90 and Polestar 3 are already based.

If he uses the same organs as the last one, he can offer Engines with a capacity of 408 and 503 horsepower, and even 517 horsepower in the Performance version. As for the battery, the Polestar 3 has a capacity of 111 kWh, which allows it to do so 600 kilometers of autonomy. ES90 (previous name “V551”) should maximize this figure thanks to optimized aerodynamics compared to SUVs. We’ll learn more in the coming months as we wait for the production version, scheduled for mid-2025.
