On Tuesday evening, Nikusor Dan was asked about the STB bus that caught fire while driving on TV channel B 1.

“We have to understand what happened there so as not to put people in danger. However, in my opinion, you should not get impatient. There are buses that have been running in Bucharest for more than three years. Thus, there are 400 buses that have been running for three years, probably together they have covered about 15 million kilometers,” said the mayor general, according to News.ro.

He said that “it’s not normal for a fire to happen on a moving bus, but it’s still not something we should be concerned about.”

“Let’s see what the specific reason is. Perhaps there was some repair that was not done well. Specialists who will watch will tell you,” added the mayor.

On Tuesday at 04:20, a fire destroyed bus line N521 (121), the STB technical commission is checking the causes of the malfunction that led to the ignition of the engine.

“By order of the general director, additional technical inspections (compared to the mandatory daily) of all Otokar brand buses are conducted for the safety of passengers.” We assure travelers that this case is isolated and additional technical measures are being taken to prevent similar situations,” the STB said in a statement.
