A woman in the US state of Alabama with a rare birth defect that left her with two uteruses gave birth to two healthy baby girls earlier this week, Reuters reported.

Kelsey Hatcher and her husband, Caleb, welcomed daughter Roxy Layla Tuesday night and her sister Rebel Laken Wednesday morning at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Hospital, the mother of five said on social media. , notes Agerpres.

“Our miracle babies were born! They decided they were statistically rare enough to go the extra mile and have their own birthday,” Kelsey Gotcher wrote on Instagram.

Hatcher has a very rare double uterus, and she carried a child in each. This rare pregnancy, known as a double cavity, has a one in a million chance.

“I had already looked after Kelsey during her third pregnancy and knew she had a double uterus, but it was only one baby and now two babies in two wombs is a real medical surprise,” said the obstetrician. Hatcher, Shweta Patel, American Hospital Press Release.

Hatcher’s pregnancy was considered high-risk, and labor was induced at 39 weeks. After 20 hours of labor, two girls were born.

Although a typical twin pregnancy is defined as two babies in one womb, Richard Davis, the doctor who managed the pregnancy, said “the girls can safely be called fraternal twins.”

The first child was delivered vaginally, as were Hatcher’s first three children, while the second child was delivered by C-section.

The medical team prepared three possible scenarios for this delivery: both babies were born vaginally, one baby was born vaginally, and one baby was delivered by C-section, or C-section for both deliveries.
