In 2024, there will be something new for the Volkswagen Golf. This restyling, probably the last version of the internal combustion engine of the German compact, will undoubtedly play an important role in the transition to a fully electric Golf by 2026.

Even if this restyling version will not include a 100% electric model, it will bring its share of new features in terms of electrification and technology. And to whet our appetites, a video posted by Thomas Schaefer, CEO of Volkswagen, on his LinkedIn profile reports the car’s imminent arrival.

Small aesthetic changes

While the video doesn’t provide exact details on the overall design of the upcoming Golf, it does offer some interesting clues. No real surprise, the front part will receive a new light signature. An LED strip runs along the entire radiator grille, which “breaks” in the center, where the elegantly illuminated Volkswagen logo is located. On the sides, the lights merge with the headlights, maintaining a somewhat “harsh” look characteristic of the current generation.

From the first spy photos that have already spread online, we already know a little more about the rest. There will also be changes in the rear lights and interior. We noticed the use of a new central multimedia screen similar to the new Passat. The screen, elegantly “placed” on the instrument panel, will be animated by the latest version of Mib4 software, already presented on the Tiguan.

A few new features under the hood

There is still little information about the engines. It’s certain that there won’t be an all-electric version, with the prospect of waiting until 2026, as indicated by a Volkswagen designer earlier this week and the announcement of an electric Golf GTI within two years.

The engine lineup will most likely include plug-in hybrid powertrains that feature increased power and range in electric mode. In addition to them, we will find micro-hybrid versions and gasoline engines. The famous four-cylinder 2.0-liter TDI will still be present on the diesel side. The Golf GTI and R should also be updated, no doubt with a few extra horses.
